Construction
(Design And Management)
Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015)

All construction work in the UK is subject to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). These regulations are in place to maintain and improve appropriate health, safety and welfare standards within the construction industry. They apply to all construction work including new builds, demolitions, refurbishments and conversions

Under these regulations, all construction projects must have a principal designer and a principle contractor. In general, the principal designer takes responsibility for planning, managing and monitoring all issues relating to health and safety, until the appointment of a principal contractor. Such designers must be up to date with all the latest requirements from the Health and Safety Executive and are engaged to act as the lead coordinator between client and contractor on any construction project.

Further guidance can be obtained from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) website.

LIVING DESIGNS does not accept appointments as principal designer. However, we are happy to provide assistance in appointing a suitable principal contractor and principal designer to meet the required statutory duties.
